DoW 2: Retribution Campaign 3rd Playable Race; Tyranids

Yup, that's right, Tyranids have been confirmed as the third playable race for the single player campaign of the upcoming Dawn of War 2 expansion Retribution.  This is relatively big news since in all the previous Dawn of War games, Tyranids haven't been a playable race in any of its campaigns.

Currently, Retribution has 3 confirmed playable races: Orks, Eldar and now the Tyranids.  I would assume that this expansion will also include the Space Marines since the story at the end of Chaos Rising was more of a "to be continued" than any sort of conclusion.

However, this stand-alone expansion is looking to have much more content than I anticipated since each of these races will have a full story with 15 missions each.  I guess once you have the engine and units in place, all there's left is to make more maps and campaigns.

DotA 2 is announced

Thus, it has happened.  An official DotA 2 will be available sometime in 2011 created by Valve since Icefrog joined them not too long ago.

If you've been keeping up on the whole Dota-ish games, you know that 2 other games came out recently that are essentially "DotA 2's": League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth.  This is mainly why I'm not too excited about this game.  It'll probably cost $30-50 and the gameplay will be essentially exactly the same as DotA.  Project lead Erik Johnson states, "our first reaction is to assume that [the design elements are] there for a reason... IceFrog is one of the smartest designers we've ever met. He's made so many good decisions over the years in building the product. He virtually never makes a decision that doesn't have some reasoning behind it and a way to pick apart the logic behind it."  Thus the main changes you will see is with Source Engine and that it'll be on Steam; both are major upgrades from the pitiful battle.net and dated WC3 engine.

The game will most likely have voice chat, matchmaking, achievements, skins, etc, but will it address the problem that DotA had since day one?  This problem is the ridiculous learning curve which is more like a stepwise function than an actual curve.  I say probably not, but you never know.  Valve is a great company with many talented people on board, thus they might work around this issue.  Otherwise, this game should be called DotA Source instead of DotA 2.

Dead Rising 2 Out for PC??!!?!?!?!

One reason why one should own an Xbox 360 if you already have a PC was the game Dead Rising.  Granted, it wasn't really a good reason, but it was at least a reason.  There may be some other reasons, but none of them come to mind especially when you have to PAY for online services.  Well, maybe Halo if you're into that sort of thing, but there are plenty of other FPS's to wet that appetite.

Just recently I saw a game for sale on Steam.  You guessed it; Dead Rising 2.  I'm not too sure if this is old news but I always assumed that this game would be an Xbox 360 exclusive..... or maybe I didn't really care too much since I wasn't going to spend $300 on an Xbox 360 for it to potentially RRoD on me with its 50% fail rate.  I could do a whole blog on Xbox 360 vs. PC, but hey, this for Dead Rising 2.

Anyway, now the glorious PC gamer race has even more ammunition to fuel their zealous pride of being the true and all powerful gamers.  Laugh at those console peasants, laugh!!

Big Review Incoming... Dragon Age Origins and Awakening

Hello fellow readers.  Sorry for the long delay of posts, but it took me quite some time to beat Dragon Age Origins and its expansion, Awakening.   This was mainly because I heard that this game was amazing. However, this was ultimately a let down.  This is partially due to my initially high expectation of the game and the fact that I just "finished" playing probably the best game to come out within the last 4 years.

This weeks Extra Credit: Freedom of Speech

This was probably they most interesting, relevant and important video I've seen in this video series about games. It's mainly about the case 'Schwarzenegger v. EMA' which was picked up by the Supreme Court and will hear this case on November 2, 2010.  What does this mean for you?  Well, if the supreme court rules in favor of Schwarzenegger, games will essentially be labeled as NOT as an art form and will be regulated differently from virtually every other entertainment medium today.  Thus, any M rated games will be much harder to produce and would essentially kill the game industry today.

What can you do to help?  Click on this link, gamers' petition to voice your opinion to fight this outrage!

Dawn of War 2: Retribution Info

At this year's gamescom, Dawn of War 2 is getting a new expansion, Retribution. There is much speculation coming out for this game but here is what we know so far for this game.
  • New race available, but no confirmation what particular race it will be
  • It will be released on March 2011 for all territories
  • Orks are a confirmed campaign playable race
    • However, there will be more campaign playable races, so not just Space Marines
  • Will be a stand alone game (will not need the other expansions to play)
  • There will be a volcanic map environment for the game
Hopefully there will be more info of this game later, so keep checking back for more info for this game!

ATi = AMD

Did you want to buy that new ATi card coming out or buy that 4850?  Well, get ready to buy the new AMD card instead.  That's right, AMD is replacing the well known manufacturer's name with its main logo, AMD.  Now we'll associate those sweet sweet graphics cards with the not so sweet processors.

Atlus Dissolved from Parent Company

Apparrently, yesterday, Atlus was dissolved from its parent company Index Holdings.  However, there is still going to be the Atlus brand, but with the company's transition, it's still unclear if the company will survive or what its capacities will be.

The company said that they'll still try to continue with the current projects in development, but due to the transition, it may be in flux.  Hopefully more news of this situation will come out in time about this company's fate.

Space Marines also for PC

Initially, this game was only going to be released for Xbox 360 and PS3.  However, apparently this will also be released for PC, which for most people on who follow this blog will rejoice to. Look forward to killing heretics in the name of the emperor with you mouse and keyboard!!!

Most "under the radar" game recently

Personally, I'm a PC gamer. As most PC Gamers, I felt I wouldn't need a console. Most big AAA games are usually multiplatform to get the most possible money out of us, the consumer.  There were few console exclusives that I may have missed, but ultimately I believed that I could have lived without one................... until now.

New Poll Out

Just created a new poll to see what kind of gaming rigs everyone has: PC, Xbox 360, PS3, or Wii.  The poll ends this friday and I'll post the results shortly after!

Games to Look Out For

This year has some really nice titles coming out soon.  However, the ones that have gotten me very excited are three very different games, one PC exclusive, one multiplatform and a PS3 exclusive.

The PC exclusive game is none other than Civilization V, however I believe it will not sell as well as another strategy that just came out (Starcraft 2) mainly because it doesn't have the insane marketing campaign that Blizzard did.  I honestly believe that it will be a better game since, but we will seen when it comes out.

The multiplatform is Fallout: New Vegas of course.  This game reminds me of the transition between Fallout and Fallout 2, and if it does, we're looking to find a very pleasant gaming experience.  Last but not least, Gran Turismo 5 is finally coming out this November.  This series is pretty much what got me interested in cars, racing and all things that burn rubber.

Keep a look out for these games and my reviews that follow!
